We have a 6 step process of building custom for each customer. This is what gives us the latitude of building a great product for each customer. No matter if you want a plain fairing you can paint and customize yourself or if you want us to do the custom work…we’re happy to help.
The Custom Fairing Process
STEP 1:
This is what the fairing looks like when it comes out of the mold. We do our very best to clean the molds so each fairing is as true as possible.
This limits the amount of extra filler we have to add in the next step of the process.STEP 2:
Now we need to get the fairing in perfect shape. We use resin and bondo to get the fairing as close to perfect as we can. This is an important step as any slight imperfection will show up in the paint.
STEP 3:
OK – after the fairing is in top shape, we will put the primer coat on. Primer is important, as paint sticks better to it than bondo. And – it seals up any teeny-tiny holes which may find its way to the plastics.
STEP 4:
We have made it to the paint process. This will give us the first look at how nice the fairing is going to look. It is nice – but very plain. We need to get the base coat of white down so all following graphics and paint will look fantastic.
STEP 5:
Now we can begin the final painting process. This is where multiple layers of paint will happen. Most times the fairing will need to be taped off so the crazy and custom paint schemes will be added. When the fairing gets done with this stage – it will look great.
STEP 6:
Clear coat – no paint job is complete until it is protected with clear coat. (If you would like a super shinny finish, we can even use multiple coats.)
This is the final step and the one that makes the fairing is coated with a thin layer of glass.
